Code & Chips 2016

Code & Chips is back!

For the second year running,  ARM and HackLab have joined forces to bring you a day of technology workshops and exhibitions aimed at getting students from Years 4 to 8 skilled up and excited about a career in STEM.

The event coincides with Ada Lovelace Day; a day to celebrate the life and work of the world’s first computer programmer and a celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

“Ada Lovelace is an inspirational figure in Cambridge because of her work on Babbage’s Difference Engine and it is great to use her legacy to inspire the next generation. The world needs the technology industry but it will only remain vibrant if there is a constant stream of girls and boys who want to make a difference. Events such as Code and Chips show people exactly what it means to work in the industry and why it’s vitally important to choose STEM subjects at school." - Jennifer Duvalier, Executive Vice President of People, ARM

“Code & Chips is about making coding accessible to everyone in schools from pupils to headteachers; we need to demystify technology at all levels if we want it to be taught and learned in schools. Centuries ago, the general conception was ‘why should I learn how to read or write? I’ll pay a scribe to do it for me!’ Now people are saying ‘why do I need to code?’ In the Information Age, that’s the same sentiment.” –  Mark CallejaFounder of HackLab

A jam packed day, full of hands on exhibits from ARM and the Cambridge Science Centre as well as a host of demonstrations from local makers and inventors. HackLab and ARM will also be running workshops throughout the day using the micro:bit and Raspberry Pi so you can put your invention skills to the test!
